Free Style Polo
The sport of free style polo had its beginnings in Baltistan Northern side of Pakistan. Baltistan's princely kingdoms adopted the sport and made it their own, with their natural proclivity for riding. Kingdoms kept special stables for polo ponies, and their teams included among the very best in the world. Very often, the players were the rulers and members of their families, though their armies also encouraged the sport. In fact, if the sport has a presence in the country today, it is because the former royal families have continued to provide encouragement for it, and the Pakistani Army has been able to contribute its mite to it.
The Rajas were formidable polo playing families. With the glamour of the game, they drew international publicity for Pakistan, and the sport has remained one of the most prominent in the elite social circuit. Along with Shandur, there are also formidable polo teams in Shigar Baltistan, Kharmang, Rondu, Khapulo, Skardu, Astor, Nagar, Chitral and Gilgit.
It is not possible to simply arrive and start playing polo, since the sport needs especially bred horses in large numbers. These are largely maintained by the players themselves, or with the help of their sponsors. You will therefore have to seek out an invitation to play, something you are best advised to do in advance. However, it is possible to send in a special request while planning your trip to Baltistan or anywhere else in Gilgit Baltistan especially if you are a group with polo-playing members. This is important because, in season, when the game is played (April - October), the polo teams are often out on the circuit. Off course, there is also the chance of having visiting teams in Shandur, Skardu coinciding with the time of your visit. Even if you do not get the chance to play, there is every chance of being able to watch the sport as an observer which is almost as good as playing. There is something extremely satisfying about watching men on their horses as they pursue the ball with their sticks with skill and adroitness.
At various tourist festivals in the North, polo has been introduced as a friendly, competitive sport. Perhaps the only place in the world where it is played, the game provides a great deal of amusement and mirth, but is not yet a serious pursuit. If you would like to have a game especially organized, let us know we will come up to your expectations!

Jeep Safaries

Jeep Adventure

No. of Days: 15
Best Season: May to Oct
Mountain Range: Hindu Kush, Karakoram, Himalayas
A Jeep-Safari across the northern of Pakistan excites the imagination. It is a journey through the corridors of history in a land of strong contrasts and fascinating people.
The most outstanding feature of our novel trips is that the latter not only visit cities and towns but also penetrate into isolated regions, over jeep-trails where only 4-wheel-drive vehicles can ply. These remote areas have not yet suffered too much from the clashes with modern culture. Isolation has preserved a way of life that has disappeared elsewhere.  Here, one can still find traditional folk-life and cultures preserved in the festivals, customs and traditions of the friendly and hospitable peoples inhabiting these areas.

Hunza Jeep Safari

No. of Days: 18
Best Season: May to Oct
Mountain Range: Karakoram
Hunza, a remote mountain kingdom, may have been the inspiration behind James Hilton's "Shangri-La." The area opened up in the 1970s following the completion of the Karakoram Highway (KKH); an engineering marvel tracing the old silk route from Pakistan into China.
The fair skinned and light-eyed Hunzakuts claim to be descendants of soldiers lost from Alexander's army as he invaded India. Their language, Burushaski, provides linguists an enigma as it is unrelated to any other language known to man.
The beauty of this mountain paradise is matchless; from the soft blossoms of the apricot trees to the dark snowcapped rock monuments of Rakaposhi (7788 m.) and recently climbed Ultar (7388 m.) jabbing a vivid blue backdrop high above.
We begin our journey with a plane flight from Islamabad to Gilgit. If weather does not permit the flight, we will travel via the famous KKH. From Gilgit we proceed over the Karakoram Highway to Karimabad (2440 m.), capital of Hunza. En route Rakaposhi appears with its sheer ice covered walls to awe passersby.
One night is spent in Karimabad before we begin a brief, but strenuous walk to the base of Ultar Peak. We camp for two days on the high meadows overlooking Hunza valley and then return to Karimabad ready for our next adventure.
A short drive on the KKH takes us to Passu where we begin our trek on the Batura Glacier (63 km.). We spend about a week on the Batura; walking over rocks and sand laid between jagged peaks, through pine strewn hills with occasional wild roses, to high shepherd meadows with staggering views of the Batura massive and the largest ice fall in the world. The people in this area are of Persian/Turkish origin and speak a language with ties to Persia. The Wakhi people are very hospitable with bright pink cheeks topping a ready smile.
The last segment of this journey begins with our return to Passu or Gulmit village. After an overnight rest there, we drive on the KKH to the Khunjerab Pass (4833 m.) on the border between China and Pakistan. After enjoying the rolling green highlands, we return the same day to Karimabad. An overnight stay in Karimabad and then on to Gilgit by means of the KKH.
The last leg of our trip takes us back to Islamabad by plane or road depending on the weather. The Hunza adventure is a grand introduction to the mountains of Pakistan. The traveler follows the most spectacular segment of the ancient silk route through an enchanting mountain kingdom to Pakistan's border with China. The Batura Glacier provides a glacial excursion with less difficulty than either the Baltoro or Biafo-Hispar glacial traverse.

Jeep Drive through the High Passes of Pakistan

No. of Days: 20
Best Season: May to Oct
Maximum Elevation: 4733 meters
Mountain Range: Hindu Kush, Karakoram, Himalayas
Islamabad, Pakistan's modern capital and older twin city of Rawalpindi, to the North-West Frontier which neighbors with Afghanistan. Peshawar's old city bazaars and markets jumbled together creates an impression of being transported back in time - our of the 20th century into another era. Chitral Valley with the unique Kalash (known as the Wearers of Black Robes) - a remaining minority of approximately 3500 people living in three isolated, beautiful valleys. To make a responsible, low-impact effect on this fragile culture our groups will be small and accompanied by a local Kalash guide. With your guide you will be able to observe and mix with the friendly Kalash, including their magnificently dressed women, in a more comfortable, less obtrusive manner. The program in Kalash Valley is unstructured to enable you to enjoy the people and area according to your interests - be it gentle strolls through villages and along tree-lined irrigation channels, to walks to high summer grazing fields at the end of the valleys or the long, strenuous walks over high passes to neighboring Kalash valleys. Further to the trade city of Northern area's "Gilgit", in the land of hunzakurts and into China. Return from China to Islamabad via KKH to Chilas and drive back to Islamabad via Babusar pass, Kaghan - Naran valley and into Islamabad via Murregila hills.
